How the Foods We Eat Affect Our Life Experience
Food affects ability to focus
Have you ever wondered why you have such a hard time sticking to a certain diet or paying attention? We live in a world of uppers and downers. People have coffee in the morning to wake them up and wine in evening to relax them and help them go to sleep. If you’re one of the lucky ones you’ve already realized this is not a healthy pattern and perhaps you’ve moved to an herbal upper in the morning and some chamomile or kava tea in the evening. This is certainly an improvement.
You can improve your focus
What if I told you that, by making certain food choices, you can be more alert, have a better memory, need less sleep, have smoother, softer skin, bright eyes and sail through your day enjoying every moment and being at peace? Sound too good to be true? It’s not. I have had several experiences whereby these things have happened to me within hours of eating the foods I’m talking about here.
My experience
I went to a Brian Clement workshop where there was a whole buffet of raw and living foods. There were pâtés made with sprouted nuts and seeds, raw flax crackers and breads, tasty salads, dressings made from all raw ingredients, and ten different kinds of sprouts. For dessert we were treated to Carob Mousse Pie and coconut cream pie. All prepared by Joel Odhner. The meal being served half-way through the talk and I really stuffed myself! I was certain I was going to have trouble staying awake since the doors were closed and fresh air really helps keep me awake after eating such a big meal. I was amazed by what happened. As the talk continued and my food digested I suddenly realized that I was feeling an amazing amount of inner-peace. I was able to focus on what was being said and it was all EFFORTLESS! Looking down I noticed that my finger nails were smooth and shiny, as if they had just been buffed and my skin felt silky soft. The rest of the day passed smoothly as I lived in this place of peace with myself and the world. I had discovered a secret.
Where I wanted to go with this
I knew that I wanted to eat this way all of the time, but how? There are many different diets out there and many different methods of incorporating them to work with your lifestyle. Still, how many people do you know that can stick with a diet? I remember my guru, Paramahansa Yogananda saying that the best and easiest way to change an undesirable habit is to replace it with the opposite desirable habit. This is also true for altering the foods one eats. By eating raw and living foods, foods that still have their enzymes; I was giving my body what it needed thereby eliminating cravings and making the undesirable food taste bad. That’s right, I couldn’t stomach it. It was awful! I’ll tell you another story.
When I found living and raw foods
When I was pregnant with my second daughter I went to a living and raw foods workshop given by Loreta Vainius. The workshop included a liquid breakfast of wheatgrass juice, sesame milk and almond milk, all made right there in front of us. Loreta spent the morning showing us how she makes a meal, which included flax crackers, raw pasta, beet stem salad, almond cheese, and apple pie! All of it was raw and perfectly balanced for our body’s needs. After we ate lunch the workshop concluded with questions and an opportunity to buy the products and books that Loreta used. So by the time I got home I was ready to eat again, it was dinner time. Martin and I went to a little restaurant and I ordered chicken with capers and lemon. I tried a few bites and said that it didn’t taste right. I couldn’t put my finger on it but I just didn’t want to eat that meal! I think I ate the salad and couldn’t take another bite of the chicken. It was amazing: I had given my body a taste of live, enzyme rich food and then the enzyme depleted chicken tasted like cardboard. It was then that I realized that I can help myself eat the way I want by being proactive. I started creating the recipes which have produced the Dawn of a New Day Raw Desserts e-book, the first in a series of raw recipe books.
My observation of me
I started paying attention to how my body reacted to certain foods. I had realized six years earlier that eating sugar made my irritable and impatient with my daughter Kathleen. I had cut it out of my diet. Now I am able to discern more subtle affects that food has on me. Eating frozen food, especially if it is old, causes me to feel depressed, sometimes suicidal. This makes sense after reading in Doreen Virtue’s book Eating In The Light that the food loses its life-force when it is frozen (or cooked). Flour and sugar makes it hard to concentrate and eating dairy and meat impairs our psychic abilities as Doreen Virtue discusses in her book The Lightworker’s Way. Sugar still makes me irritable and even though I don’t go out of my way to eat it, sometimes restaurants put it in the most unlikely places. Sugar also is reported to lower the body’s immune system just 20 minutes after ingesting it. The only sweetener that doesn’t cause me problems is beet sugar and I’ve found that in the Endangered Species Chocolate bars. I just can’t tolerate any of the other sweeteners and I don’t like the taste of stevia as a sweetener. I do like it as a tea, though. Basically, anything that isn’t a whole food affects me adversely. If I start feeling funky, listless, depressed, suicidal or angry I can always look back at what I ate and it points me directly to the food which caused it. Interestingly enough, once I figure out it was the food I ate it helps me tolerate how the food made me feel. As Eckhart Tolle says in The Power of Now Teaching Series observing your reactions takes the power out of them and they usually go away.
Now
I still haven’t converted completely to a raw and living foods diet, as much as I would like to. Right now I’m craving sweets (12/06-I found out why, check out the post on the Mucusless Diet) and I know all I have to do is have sesame milk (containing calcium) for breakfast most of the time and I won’t have these cravings. So I’m working on a method to fit that into my lifestyle on a regular basis. Once I do, I know the cravings will go away because they weren’t there when I was drinking the sesame milk regularly.
Possible future resources
David Wolfe told me that he was writing a book that included a method for incorporating the raw food diet into the lifestyle of Americans. I’ll let you know when I find out.
There is so much more to say on this topic and so many more resources. I’ll get you more information later. In the meantime, this is a good start.

The Happiest Baby on the Block
Reason to get this book
This was recommended to me by a parent who was carrying his contentedly sleeping child on his forearm.
Comments
I can’t review this one personally since I didn’t know about it when my last child was born. No, I’m not going to have another child just to test it. (Then I couldn’t bring you these reviews!) You test it and let me know how it goes!

The Energetic Heart: Its Purpose in Human Destiny
A "paper" written by James, July 2005
Picture on the first page of the "paper"
The first thing I noticed when I downloaded this paper from the website was the interplay of the images on the first page. I have gotten quite experienced at viewing random dot stereogram pictures and was guided to look at this picture using that method. Once I did, the “portal” image in the center, that you might say looks like an eye on its side, moved into the heart area of the image of the person on the right side of the picture. Another potential view is when the eyes are focusing in front of the image, as in the method of viewing a random dot stereogram, two images of the “portal” appear and it seems we are seeing a non-human being with “sideways” glowing eyes and a long purple striped torso or mouth and nose. Just at normal viewing I noticed the image on the left of the picture appears to be the back of a human with the head being semi-transparent in the red at the top of the picture. It is very interesting, although I don’t know what it means.
Writing
This is a call for humans to play a great role in the destiny of the planet and the shift coming very soon. And it’s easier than you think. It’s all about the heart. James tells us how to play that role by connecting to “the intelligence of love issuing from the Central Sun and conducted by Spirit to all dimensions of existence.” In remembering other works I have read I realized this could be done through my intention. Every morning I will set my intention to connect to this love and set it in motion to flow out to humanity by the simple statement, "As it flows to me it flows through me." Then it will flow all day without further ado, doing my part to aid in the preparation of humanity and the earth for the transitions ahead! “As this paper states, you have the potential to receive and transmit a frequency and intelligence of love that issues from the Central Sun or First Source. This potential requires your choice to reach for it, to make it part of your new mission. In doing so, you have signaled your readiness for the planetary transition that lies ahead, and you are making a contribution so this shift occurs with greater balance and stability.”
Suggestions for reading it
1. I suggest you read this material at a place and time when you can read it though without stopping or being interrupted.
2. Read with an open heart. By reading the words with an open heart I realized I was being changed. The words will cause an “energetic transfer” if read in this manner. Open your heart and let the Sun in! You will get the most benefit from it that way.

Take Off Your Glasses and See
I like this book
When I started it I was just looking for a way to improve my eyesight and get to the point where I didn’t need glasses to see clearly. I got so much more out of this book. It helped me in my life, on my spiritual path, in my relationships, with my self-worth and so much more.
What this book’s about
According to the cover this book helps you "heal your eyesight and expand your insight". It is a comprehensive course that takes you from the origins of eye problems to how we can prevent eye problems in our children and helps you figure out why you have eye problems and how you can fix them. It talks about how some learning disabilities are actually problems with the eyes.
What’s good about this book
It is a way to get make tremendous progress in your life and the methods used are easy and very affective.
What I didn’t like/would change/wouldn’t recommend about this book
I just couldn’t read it fast enough. As I read more I would have subtle changes in my eyesight and I just wanted to read it all so my eyes would improve even quicker.
Especially good sections to read
Read it all! Don’t skip a thing.
What you can skip
See, "Especially good sections to read".
When to get this book
NOW! It’s never too late or too early to improve your life and removing your glasses can help you change your life no matter how stuck you may be (that’s what the author says!). My eyeglass prescription went from a -3.5 to -1.75 and I’m still going!
Final Comments
Some doctors agree with this book and some are very against it. (Just think what it would mean to their profession if everyone had perfect eyesight. Keep in mind that removing everyone’s need for glasses will free them to do what they really love in life. They could probably justify their existence for at least a few more years while helping everyone transition to perfect eyesight.

You are Your Child’s First Teacher
What this book’s about
This book takes you from pregnancy through age six. It contains information on giving your children what they need for their own natural development during the first six years of their lives. The author is a former Waldorf kindergarten teacher so she takes a Waldorf approach. Waldorf is recommended by God in Conversations with God.
What’s good about this book
I like the Waldorf philosophy; I think it makes a lot of sense as far as teacher children in harmony with how they learn. This book will also save you a lot of money, time and aggravation since she tells you what toys to avoid and other things that you don’t need.
What I didn’t like about this book: Now that it has been updated I don’t have any reservations about it.
Especially good sections to read
The resources are a wonderful place for finding help implementing a lot of the ideas recommended by the author. She really did her homework.
What you can skip
Nothing to skip.
When to get this book
Get this book before the baby is born, preferably early in pregnancy or when you are planning on getting pregnant. It’s jam-packed with resources and references you’ll want to check out before the baby comes. There are also some things that she mentions doing during pregnancy.
Final comments
This book has recently been updated, which is very important for a book with this many resources. Very nicely done.
