Staying in Shape All Winter

What’s natural
Want to know how to stay in shape when nature gives you extra pounds and slows things down? Before supermarkets, food traveling thousands of miles and electricity people probably ate less during the winter, they were also less active and slept more so they didn’t need as much food.

Modern society
With our busy lives and how active we are in our society, slowing down isn’t always an option so we still eat as much as we did during the bounty of the summer and thus we have to work harder to get those extra pounds off. Think about it, isn’t it easier to keep it off in the first place than have to lose it in the Spring?

Warmer climates
People who live in warmer climates seem to stay thinner throughout the year. Is it because of nature or because they keep up their healthy lifestyles during the winter knowing they could wind up in a bathing suit any day of the year? Hmmm…

What can we learn from all this?
It would a huge challenge to live in our modern world while following the dictates of nature. How can you have less light during the darker days when we have electric lights. If you live alone it would be easier but try to get everyone in your house to give up electric lights, televisions (they put light into your eyes) and computers (also backlit so you get light in your eyes). Then there’s also the light from the street lamps outside and what if you need to go out at night? You get light from other cars in your face. Hmmm…

We can try to get more sleep during the darker months, eat less, relax more and be introspective. But I digress.

Stay active
One thing I’ve found to keep me in shape all year round is Callanetics. The CardioCallanetics works especially well for me since it includes aerobic activity and toning. Then I can workout from home even if there’s snow on the ground. Trampolines are also nice for exercising inside in all kinds of weather. Keep up your stretching with yoga so you stay flexible.

Watch what you eat
Everyone needs a different diet depending on your body type (there are numerous methodologies that people can use to determine their body type), where your ancestors are from, what kind of job you have (how active or sedentary you are and whether you work inside or outside), where you live, what foods you believe you can eat, what your general belief is about your eating (yes, we can determine that everything we eat with make us skinny or the opposite), etc. I figure if I get in my daily quart of green smoothie and my raw chocolate I’m good with anything else I eat that day. But that’s me. I can’t do sugar since it makes me majorly cranky unless I eat it with my green smoothie and, frankly, they don’t always go together well.

Added benefits

Sleeping better is also a benefit of exercising and eating healthy and can help counteract the detrimental effects of living a life that’s made unnatural by living inside, electric lighting and more.

Conclusions
Live as natural of a life as you can and stay healthy in body, mind and spirit.

Transforming to Positive Metaphors

Metaphors and sayings
You might be surprised at how many metaphors originated from not nice meanings. Many are also misunderstood because they were cut down to the "shorthand" of the time. Did you know that, "feed a cold, starve a fever" actually is shortened from, "If you feed a cold you’ll wind up having to starve a fever"? Thus, "feed a cold, starve a fever," takes on new meaning.

Updating metaphors
What do you say we update our metaphors and either say what we really mean or use positive metaphors to get our point across?

Transformation to Positive Metaphors

"Kill two birds with one stone"

Hunting

Getting two things done with the effort it takes to get one thing done

I’m Multi-effective

"A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush"

Something you have in your possession is worth two that are accessible but aren’t yours

I appreciate all that Life has given me

"Beating a dead horse"

Someone’s angry actions

There’s nothing that can be done now to make any difference in the situation

"The grass is always greener on the other side"

Wistful desires

Choosing our words carefully we can positively affect our outlook on life, how we interact with people and what we attract into our experience. Your words are powerful. Treat them that way.
