Moom Natural Hair Removal

Moom Natural Hair RemovalWhat this product is
Moom is a natural, organic hair remover that is water soluble, gentle on your skin and works very well. The "classic"  has Sugar, Lemon, Chamomile, Water and Tea Tree Oil to remove hair easily and gently while pampering your skin, but you probably don’t want to eat it.

"Waxing"
This type of hair removal is usually called "waxing" since it’s typically done with hot or cold wax. The disadvantage of wax is that it’s a one-time use thing. You can’t reuse the strips, you just have to throw them out with the wax and hair on them. What you are doing with waxing is pulling the hair out of the follicle, root and all. This makes the root weaker so the hair doesn’t grow in as fast, as much, or as thickly.

Benefits
Over many uses "waxing" makes unwanted hair grow in more slowly, softer and lighter in color. If you "wax" regularly for a long time your hair will probably stop growing in all together. "Mooming" also removes dead skin as it removes unwanted hair and nourishes the skin at the same time. Since it’s water soluble, you aren’t adding to landfills. The cloth strips you use to remove the Moom and hair can be washed and reused again and again. Clean-up is as easy as washing it off. Changing your mind is easy too if you get the Moom on and are too scared to remove it. Hey, it happens.

How and when you use it
I don’t recommend using it the day you want to go to the beach or pool. Getting sun on freshly "moomed" skin might cause irritation. Do it the day before. Regular use, every three weeks, will keep you looking good all the time and you won’t have any emergency hair removal jobs where you might consider going back to shaving. Hair removal is typically done on women’s underarms, legs and bikini lines. Some women also use it on their faces. I haven’t done that so make sure you follow the directions VERY carefully and call Moom directly with questions or anything you’re unsure of.

For men
In our age of men getting buff and shaving down, check out Men’s Health Magazine, more men are realizing that removing their body hair needs to be done with the care of the skin in mind. The hair removal Moom has for men is just as great as the one for women and just as gentle.

My experience
I started waxing when I was in college and have waxed on and off since then. I went back to shaving a couple of times but always come back to waxing. My hair grows in very slowly, very sparsely and is light in color. I’ve used other hair removers which were based on sugar and this is one of the best. I like the chamomile and tea tree oil since they make my skin feel really good afterwards. I get a few red bumps after using Moom, just like I did with other products. They do go away quickly. That’s probably due to the great ingredients in Moom.

A story
When my older daughter wanted to start shaving her legs I talked her into using Moom instead. She’s been using it for a year now. Her hair grows in very slowly and is starting to grow in less. Her underarm hair growth, in one month, is what one of her friends is in 2 days. That’s incredible. I always wondered what it would be like if someone only "waxed" without ever shaving. It’s so cool. She also love how smooth and new her skin feels because all the dead skin gets removed when you "moom".

Tips

Preparation

I heat up the Moom either in the dehydrator (with the Moom lid on so it doesn’t dry out) with the temperature set to 115 degrees or in a pan of warm water. They recommend that it be the consistency of honey. They must be referring to heated honey as raw honey is solid.  I use a digital thermometer to tell me when it’s warm enough, but not too warm. Read the packaging for the exact temperature. I make sure my skin is clean and dry. Sometimes I rub the skin dry with a dry washcloth then brush on a little powder and make sure I get most of the powder off, also with the dry washcloth. I make sure I get all the hair off an entire area before I wipe with a warm wash cloth. I keep a warm, moist washcloth with me when I "moom" to wipe my hands so they don’t get too sticky. If my hands get sticky they’ll stick to the cloth strips. I use the Moom in a room where the light is bright enough to see but not so bright that I sweat. Make sure you read the directions thoroughly.

Use

Depending on how much dead skin is on your body will determine how many times you can reuse a strip with Moom on it. Sometimes I can use the same strip with the same Moom on it more than once. Once I use it in one area I just press it down on another area, smooth it out in the direction of the hair growth until it’s adhered well, then remove the strip in the opposite direction of hair growth.

After hair removal

Every day for a week after I remove the hair, I do dry skin brushing. It keeps me from getting too many ingrown hairs and helps keep the dead skin off and my skin as smooth as possible.

Ingrown hairs

While ingrown hairs can be a nuisance, they are usually easy to remove with a pair of tweezers. Ask your pharmacist for how to use them.

Spas
There are spas who use Moom instead of wax. If you don’t want to remove your own hair you can find a spa that uses Moom. Only have this type of hair removal done by someone who has had it done herself. I was waxed once by a woman who had never been waxed herself and it was more painful than having it done by someone who had waxed before.

Ecological
Of course you want to recycle. The cloth strips can be washed and dried for reuse. Make sure you lay them flat to dry so there aren’t creases in them. Creases keep the strips from laying flat on your skin and you won’t get all the hair off. The lids are a #5 hard plastic recycling, the jar is glass, the insert is paper and the plastic packaging is a #3. If you don’t have recycling service in your area you can send it back to Moom and they’ll recycle it. I called and that’s what they told me.

Cautions
Make sure you read and follow the product directions closely. Call Moom if you have any questions.

Conclusions
This is a great product for hair removal. Hair initially grows in slower and lighter. Eventually it will hardly growing in at all. I like Moom because it’s made with natural ingredients that are easy to remove and decompose quickly since they are water soluble. I like how I can reuse the cloth strips and how my skin looks and feels afterwards. It might be nice to find a buddy who is willing to exchange "mooming" for those hard to reach spots. It’s a little hard to reach the back of my legs so it’s nice to have some help with that. I definitely recommend someone who has done this type of hair removal before.
