As I was clearing out old boxes of papers I found a piece of paper with an old poem written on it. I wrote this poem on May 17, 1996. On the horizon of my life was my marriage to my current husband, Martin. We were wed on July 14, 1996, Bastille Day. He always calls it Basile Day, since that’s my maiden name. We’ve gone through a lot together and this year is our tenth anniversary. We’ve really enjoyed sharing new experiences and learning new things together like Conversations with God and The Power of Now teachings. I really believe those teachings were huge in keeping us together. I don’t think we’d still be together if we hadn’t read and studied those works. I’m reading Home with God now and, once again, it’s altering my perceptions of the world.
Here’s the poem:
ONE
You are you
I am I
together we make a third,
an entity,
a couple.
Being this couple,
how can I stay I
and you stay you?
Being one with ourselves,
loving each other,
and living each moment
completely present.
One moment at a time
One
I never was much into keeping the "acceptable" forms that poems have been written in up until now. I write how it feels to me. And you can see, even then in 1996, that I was picking up on the solution to major issues in the world, that of being present in each moment. Martin has even written a song called, "Each Moment" for a musical he is co-writing although it had absolutely nothing to do with this poem..
Enjoy this wonderful Spring day….
